Substance Use Advocacy Worker (Salford & Trafford)

Role Details

Early Break scale 8 – 12: £27, 490 to £30, 589  per annum FTE.  Subject to review.

Key deliverables 

  • To deliver 1:1, face to face work with young clients and their parents/carers as appropriate and manage the appointments to best meet clients’ needs in accordance with Early Break Policies and Procedures.  This may include evening and/or weekend sessions 
  • Complete a full assessment of each client’s needs and develop, monitor and review SMART care plans for each individual client using agreed systems  
  • Offer structured treatment interventions, including substitute prescribing, if required and appropriate 
  • Making Alternative therapy interventions part of client care planning as appropriate, upskilling yourself to offer this within the course of your role  
  • Work in community-based settings in order to engage and deliver services to potential clients 
  • Liaise and develop partnerships, with a range of agencies in seeking out the provision which best meets the treatment needs of the young clients identified through referrals  
  • Offer Drop Ins, as required and/or appropriate, in relevant young people’s settings  
  • Contribute to a range of multi-agency meetings, acting as key worker/advocate for the young client  
  • Support young clients into in-patient treatment, if available/as appropriate, and maintain contact with them, preparing and arranging for appropriate after-care provision back in the community where this is required 
  • Adhere to Early Break policies on Safeguarding, linking to local and national policies and guidelines contributing as the role of Lead Professional as and when required  
  • Record and report all required client information, using the Company’s agreed database system in line with service expectations and the legal framework of Data Protection 
  • Maintain and update levels of knowledge and understanding of issues relevant to young people through training offered by Early Break and other agencies, as opportunities arise 
  • Contribute to the charitable aspect of the service including social media and charitable fundraising activity

Substance Use Worker within the Family Safeguarding Partnership (Rochdale)

Key deliverables 

  • To manage a high case load of adults whose families are open to Children’s Social Care (as Child in Need or Child in Need of Protection) and where the parents are experiencing problems related to primarily substance misuse and other vulnerabilities
  • To deliver 1:1, face to face work, and where appropriate group work with the parents and manage the appointments to best meet clients’ needs in accordance with Early Break Policies and Procedures. This may include evening and/or weekend sessions.
  • To carry out home visits to the families on your case load
  • Complete a full assessment of each client’s needs and develop, monitor and review SMART care plans for each individual client using agreed systems
  • Offer structured treatment interventions, including substitute prescribing, if required and appropriate
  • To ensure that all necessary administration, recording and reporting is undertaken to specified deadlines using the Children’s Services and agreed substance database
  • Strong awareness of legislation as it applies to adults at risk, children and young people particularly focused on Safeguarding, substance misuse, criminal justice and Emotional Health and Well Being
  • To share information with colleagues in accordance with relevant Information Sharing Agreements
  • Be able to work effectively within a team
  • To promote and champion best practice in parenting and family work with partner agencies
  • Contribute to a range of multi-agency meetings ensuring the voices of the client and the voice of the child is heard
  • Be a reflective practitioner in the role
  • Be skilled and confident to deliver training and support for external partners in relation to substance misuse and the issues related to it
  • To contribute to the wider work of the service and its entrepreneurial development.

  • To deliver 1:1, face to face work with young clients and their parents/carers as appropriate and manage the appointments to best meet clients’ needs in accordance with Early Break policies and procedures.  This may include evening and/or weekend sessions 
  • Build relationships and offer interventions with children who are affected by parental substance use or parental criminality  
  • Offer trauma informed interventions  
  • To deliver group work programmes and support in drop in sessions 
  • To provide regular updates for and attend monthly Operational Meetings 
  • To write or contribute to reports for Child in Need, Case Conferences, Core Group or Court and attend meetings as appropriate 
  • Support the Holding Families coordinator in case load management 
  • Liaise and develop partnerships, with a range of agencies in seeking out the provision which best meets the needs of the young people identified through referrals  
  • Adhere to Early Break policies on Safeguarding young people, linking to local and national policies and guidelines 
  • Record and report all required client information, using the Holding Families database system in line with Service deadlines and the legal framework of Data Protection 
  • Maintain and update levels of knowledge and understanding of issues relevant to parental drug and alcohol use through training offered by Early Break and other agencies, as opportunities arise 
  • Undertake other professional development opportunities, as appropriate to the role/Service 
  • To contribute to the Early Break workforce development in relation to the key issues re: parental substance misuse and Hidden Harm  
  • To be an active member of named Service meetings, identifying areas of work and working under your own initiative to resolve gaps, problems, issues 
  • Undertake any other duties as directed by, and negotiated with, the Senior Manager/Line Manager
