Emotional Wellbeing Support in Bury

What is RISE?

RISE (Resilience, Information, Support and Empowerment) is an emotional health and wellbeing service delivered by Early Break for children and young people aged 5–17 living in Bury.

RISE is designed to support young people who may be experiencing difficulties such as anxiety, low mood, emotional regulation challenges, stress, or worries that are starting to affect daily life at home, school, or with friends.

Our aim is to offer early, preventative support at the right time, helping young people better understand their feelings and develop strategies to manage them. RISE is not a crisis service, but a planned, supportive intervention focused on emotional wellbeing.

How RISE Works Now (Important Update)

RISE in Bury now operates on a booking-only assessment model.

This change allows us to make sure that:

  • Families speak directly to a practitioner

  • Assessments are offered to young people who are most suitable for the service

  • Appointments are used effectively and fairly

Drop-ins are no longer available. All RISE assessments must be booked via the RISE phone line 0161 4660 200.

Booking an Assessment: Step by Step

    • 🗓 Mondays only

    • 🕘 9:00 am – 4:00 pm (or until all assessment slots are filled)

    When you call, you will speak directly with a RISE practitioner. This is not an admin call and cannot be handled by the main office team.

    Please do not contact the Early Break main office number to book a RISE assessment, as the support team cannot access the booking system or assess suitability.

  • During the call, the practitioner will:

    • complete a booking form with you

    • gather general information about the young person

    • talk through the emotional or wellbeing difficulties being experienced

    • explain clearly what RISE can and cannot support with

    This conversation helps us decide whether RISE is the most appropriate service.

  • There are two possible outcomes:

    If RISE is not suitable

    • an assessment will not be booked

    • the practitioner will provide information, advice and signposting to other support services available in Bury

    If RISE is suitable

    • an assessment will be booked within the same week

    • the appointment day and time will be agreed with you during the call

    • we can offer appointments up to 5:00pm if needed

The RISE Assessment

Where Assessments Take Place

Assessments are currently held at one of our two Bury locations:

  • Streetwise Building

  • Castle Buildings (Early Break Head Office)

You will receive full location details by email after booking.

After the Appointment

After both the booking call and the assessment, you will receive an automated email containing:

  • appointment confirmation and location details

  • assessment outcome information

  • contact numbers should you need them

This helps ensure you always have the right information at hand.

What Happens During the Assessment

  • The assessment lasts approximately one hour

  • It will be completed by the same practitioner you spoke to during the booking call

  • A range of emotional wellbeing assessments will be used to better understand your child’s needs

  • The session is supportive, child-focused, and age-appropriate

At the end of the assessment, the practitioner will explain:

  • what support they recommend

  • which service is most appropriate for your child

  • what the next steps will be

Your child will then be added to the relevant waiting list and contacted when they reach the top.

This booking-only model is Phase One.

Over the next few months, we will be reviewing:

  • number of assessment slots available

  • whether phone line opening times can be expanded

  • overall accessibility of the service

We welcome feedback from young people and families to help shape future improvements.

Is RISE a Crisis Service?

No. RISE is not a crisis service.

If a young person is at immediate risk or needs urgent support:

  • call 999

  • or attend your local A&E

Please do not contact the RISE phone line or the main office in an emergency.

    • The RISE phone line must not be used by professionals for consultation

    • This ensures families can access booking slots

    • The phone line will close once all slots are filled

    Professionals, schools, and other agencies with general enquiries should:

RISE FAQs

  • RISE supports:

    • children and young people aged 5–17

    • who live in Bury

    • who are experiencing emotional wellbeing difficulties that are not crisis-level

    RISE is a voluntary service. Young people are encouraged to engage at their own pace.

  • No. RISE assessments are booked by phone only via the RISE phone line 0161 4660 200

  • Anything that’s affecting your wellbeing, emotions, relationships, school, bereavement, or things you’re finding hard to manage.

  • To help the assessment run smoothly:

    • young people should attend with one adult

      • we can accommodate two adults if needed

    • please do not bring other children to the appointment

      • they cannot be left unsupervised

      • they should not attend the assessment session

    These arrangements allow us to give your child our full attention.

  • No. Families must contact the RISE phone line directly.

  • The phone line will close once all slots are filled. You can try again the following Monday.

  • After assessment, your child may be placed on a waiting list for the recommended service.

  • Yes. Appointments can be offered up to 5:00 pm.

  • The assessment is completed by the same practitioner who handled your booking call.
